Introduction

A one-day haemostasis course in line with the objectives of British Society of Gastroenterology’s Endoscopy Quality Improvement programme (BSGEQIP).
The course included lectures on upper GI bleeds and its management followed by hands on experience on porcine and synthetic models .This course offers high quality training endoscopy in a friendly environment with experts in the field.

Mo Thoufeeq: Course Director
Mo Thoufeeq is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with an interest in GI Endoscopy. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield. He is an elected member of British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Endoscopy Clinical Research Committee. He is an active member of BSG Endoscopy Quality Improvement Programme (EQIP) team and the joint national lead for UGIB. He is the Clinical Lead for South Yorkshire Integrated Care Systems (ICS).
He is a Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BSCP) accredited Colonoscopist and a faculty of Sheffield Endoscopy Training Centre.
He is very keen on training being a member of standard setting group of Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) Gastroenterology, Royal College of Physicians (RCP), UK. He offers a Fellowship Programme in EMR in Sheffield. He is involved with training internationally and will be BSG International Committee’s chair from 2023. He has run endoscopy courses in India, Malta and in Cairo.
Faculty Members

Dr Nilanga Nishad
is a GMC‑registered gastroenterologist with more than a decade of postgraduate experience in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He currently serves as an advanced endoscopy fellow at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, having previously worked at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and overseas experience in Sri Lanka in high volume centres. His clinical background includes extensive exposure to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy in high‑volume tertiary centres.
He has a particular clinical and academic focus on acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). His hands‑on expertise spans emergency endoscopy, endoscopic haemostasis for peptic ulcer bleeding, variceal band ligation, cyanoacrylate injection for gastric varices, and the management of high‑risk patients in acute and high‑dependency settings. Working within 24‑hour GI bleeding services has equipped him with significant experience in complex UGIB care.
Dr Nishad is also an active trainer and faculty member in endoscopy, contributing to more than six national BSG EQUIP Sheffield UGIB courses and regularly mentoring trainees in OGD and colonoscopy. His research interests include endoscopy, UGIB outcomes, and evidence‑based approaches to gastrointestinal bleeding, supported by publications, presentations, and ongoing clinical audit work. He remains committed to high‑quality training and advancing standards in endoscopy and GI bleeding management.
Dr David Tai
Dr David Tai is a consultant Gastroenterologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with an interest in small bowel pathology and endoscopy. On behalf of the UK Small Bowel Quality Improvement committee, he described the Training pathway for small bowel capsule endoscopy in the UK and designed the e-learning teaching modules as part of the national JAG accreditation process.

Dr Hiba Suliman
Dr Hiba Suliman is an ST7 Gastroenterology Speciality Trainee. She is particularly enthusiastic about endoscopy and has a growing special interest in the management of upper gastrointestinal bleeding as well as lower GI advanced endoscopic techniques include complex polypectomies. In addition to her clinical commitments, Hiba contributes to regional training and education through her role as a committee of the annual North West Gastroenterology Conference.
Dr Ching Lam
Dr. Ching Lam is a consultant gastroenterologist who has been serving at the prestigious Sheffield Teaching Hospitals since 2017. With a keen focus on nutrition and functional gut disorders, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Dr. Lam’s academic journey began at the University of Belfast, where she earned her medical degree. Driven by a passion for gastroenterology research, she pursued her postgraduate studies at the University of Nottingham, obtaining a PhD in 2014 with a focus on Functional GI Disorders. Following her academic achievements, Dr. Lam completed her specialty training in general medicine and gastroenterology in the East Midlands region, further honing her skills and knowledge in the field. Since joining the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Dr. Lam has played a pivotal role in enhancing the nutrition service, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care and support. Her expertise extends beyond patient care, as she also serves as an endoscopy trainer for JAG (Joint Advisory Group) approved training courses in Sheffield.
Nationally, Dr. Lam’s contributions to the field of gastroenterology are widely recognized. She is an active member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Neurogastroenterology and Motility Section committee, sharing her insights and contributing to the advancement of the field. Additionally, she participates in the BSG mentoring scheme, nurturing and guiding the next generation of gastroenterologists.
Dr Ruchit Sood
Dr Ruchit Sood is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. He has an interest in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional luminal endoscopy, but particularly in the endoscopic management of Barrett’s oesophagus and early gastric cancer, colorectal endoscopic resection, and upper GI endoscopic ultrasound. After completing his medical degree from the University of Sheffield, Dr Sood undertook the major part of his gastroenterology training in Leeds, which included an advanced endoscopy fellowship, and the award of a Doctorate in Medicine research degree from the University of Leeds. He has a wide range of research interests, resulting in more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. He is currently the clinical lead for the regional Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, as well as for endoscopy governance and the gastrointestinal bleeding service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
Dr Abdul Hameed Rahimi
Dr Abdul Hameed Rahimi MBBS, MRCP (UK) is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust. He has a specialist interest in general gastroenterology and luminal endoscopy, with expertise in upper GI haemostasis and advanced colonoscopy.
Dr Rahimi completed Advanced Endoscopy Training at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and holds JAG certification in gastroscopy and colonoscopy, alongside BCSP accreditation. He has undertaken dedicated JAG haemostasis training and is an accredited colonoscopy trainer.
He is Education Co-Lead for Gastroenterology in the East of England and is actively involved in endoscopy training, quality improvement, and governance. Dr Rahimi is passionate about enhancing trainee experience and fostering high-quality, safe endoscopy practice.

From the M1
- Exit the motorway at J34 (Meadowhall) and follow signs for Sheffield City Centre (A6109).
- Continue on the A6109 past Meadowhall to the Brightside roundabout.
- Take the third exit, signposted Hillsborough (A6102).
- Continue to follow the A6102, go straight across at the Fir Vale traffic lights then after about half a mile turn right into the hospital grounds (Herries Road entrance).
From the City Centre
- Follow Barnsley Road (A6135) to Fir Vale.
- To reach the Barnsley Road entrance go straight on at the Fir Vale traffic lights.
- The hospital entrance is the first turning on the left.
- To reach the Herries Road entrance turn left at the Fir Vale traffic lights onto Herries Road. The entrance is about half a mile on the right.
Reaching us via Train
If you are arriving at Sheffield Train Station the hospital is around 15 minute taxi ride away or around 25 minutes via public transport.
Public Transport
Car parking around the hospital is extremely limited so public transport is often the easiest way to get to us.
